Our Mission
Stable
communities. Clean water. Sustainable forests. Open
space. Abundant wildlife. These are irreplaceable American
treasures.
The Conservation
Leaders Network encourages county commissioners to protect
America’s natural resources at the state and national
level. We are the nation’s leading organization supporting
and forging ties between county commissioners and
environmental leaders to construct ethically and
economically responsible decisions which complement and
complete our communities.
Our Accomplishments The Conservation
Leaders Network's contributions include:
-
a nationwide
network of more than 800 conservation-minded county
commissioners
-
the defeat of
the Association of O&C Counties' proposal to transfer
2.5 million acres of federal forest land to the State of
Oregon to avoid federal logging restrictions
-
the success of
the county choice component of S 1608, which prevented
counties in four states from being forced to forfeit 15%
of their federal forest revenues to US Forest Service
and Bureau of Land Management.
-
persuading the
Oregon Ocean Policy Advisory Council to adopt language
in support of marine reserves
-
increased
understanding by environmental advocates of county
decisions on natural resource issues of state and
national significance
-
a strong
conservation presence at every National Association of
Counties' annual conference since 1998 (OR, MO, NC, PA,
LA WI, AZ, HI ). Our exhibit, "Conservation
Makes $ense," allows us to highlight good
economic/environmental policy and build our network of
pro-environment county officials
